Way back when I was in high school, I was heavily involved in all things youth at Burke Presbyterian Church. Around the same time I became a youth, the church welcomed a new director of music ministries. (It’s hard to believe now that she was the same age I am now when she started the job!) A couple of years into her tenure, this music director started a youth choir, which we soon named Inspiring Music and Praise, Acclaiming Christ Together – or IMPACT.
Ten-plus years later, IMPACT is still going strong and is a major fixture of the youth program at Burke Presbyterian. This summer, I was lucky enough to return as an adult chaperone on the group’s annual summer choir tour. As part of that, I also helped our music director coordinate a few IMPACT alumni celebrations that took place on the evening of the home concert, which occurs at Burke Presbyterian the night after the youth return from their summer tour.
I created this video to show our home concert-goers just how important IMPACT has been in the lives of so many Burke Presbyterian youth. It was a joy to interview these young adults and hear about their memories and reflections on a part of my youth that meant so much to me. Enjoy!
